Alison Wells

Alison Wells is a Trinidadian artist whose paintings are characterized by semi-abstracted imagery where personal examinations of inner and outer experiences are explored through a variety of media and techniques.   Her earlier works depict her Caribbean culture through fluid, organic forms along with a vivid use of colour. Abstracted folk dancers, steel pan players, Caribbean architecture and other local themes are used to reference her native Trinidad.

After moving to the Unites States in 2004 to pursue a Masters Degree in Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, Wells became fascinated with the urban landscape and its effects on the human psyche. She now depicts abstracted depictions of city and city life through texture, colour and structure. Her work has taken on various changes formally and conceptually as her two worlds are now becoming one.

Wells has hosted six solo exhibitions and has shown in several group exhibitions locally and internationally.  She has taught Art and Design at the high school level for four years and Drawing and Painting at the University level for five years. She has also worked as an art instructor with non-profit community organizations teaching specified workshops to children, teens and adults. Some of these include workshops for mentally challenged children, professional development workshops for teachers and history workshops that teach the past through the medium of art. Now graduated Wells continues to be a practicing artist and art educator.
