Fraulein Rudder, a graduate teacher with Distinction in Fine Arts has been painting professionally since 1986, her preferred medium being Alkyd (oils). Her formal training can be attributed to the late M.P. Alladin and the late Sybil Atteck in her formative years. She sold her first painting at age ten, the driving force being her father who also painted and taught her the basics. Founder of the Women in Art Organization of Trinidad and Tobago in 1996, and on-going President, Fraulein has held fourteen solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions including the Commonwealth Exhibition, “Trinidad and Tobago Through The Eyes Of The Artist” held in Kensington, London in 1997, CARIFESTA V in 1992, & CARIFESTA V11 in 2000 (St. Kitts/Nevis). She was Secretary of the Trinidad Art Society for the period 1992 to 1996. In the year 2000 she organized the production of a book of ‘Women In Art’ depicting the art works of 38 women artists of Trinidad and Tobago. This was jointly published with her daughter.
2005 saw her being honoured by the Ministry of Culture, Community Development and Gender Affairs as they paid tribute to her in the area of Culture-Visual Arts, ”Women Of Culture, International Women’s Day, 2005”. She has also been a recipient of an award from the Diego Martin Community for her contribution to Art and Culture. Her painting “La Fillette, North Coast Trinidad” is presented on the Guardian General Ltd. Calendar, 2003. She has been responsible for the organization of the Women in Art Organisation Annual Art Exhibition which started in 1996, and the Biennial Art Competition for Fifth and Sixth Form Art Students of Secondary Schools since 1998. These ventures continue to yield success in 2010, which has also seen her most recent exhibition “Reflections”, at the Gallery at Fine Art.
The artist’s philosophy: “There is need for peace in this chaotic world in which we live. My paintings depict peace and serenity which I hope to share with my viewers”. |
