Ronald Jacob

Artist Ronald Jacob was born in the 1970s in south Trinidad, and grew up in the rural "'oil" village of Santa Flora. He attended the Santa Flora government primary school and then went on to the Palo Seco government secondary school where he did visual art at the CXC level. He took his studies even further in the Advanced Level art programme at the Siparia Senior Comprehensive School. He continued his studies at the tertiary level earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Specialization in visual arts from the University of the West Indies.

Throughout his journey Ronald has held several positions of employment over the years including, police constable, Emergency Medical Technician, and aviation security officer. He is at present a secondary school teacher in the visual arts at the Palo Seco secondary school.

Ronald lists his earliest influences as including artists such as Michelangelo, Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne and Claude Monet. His more recently influences have expanded to include Jackson Pollock, Damien Hirst, Julian Beaver, Andy Warhol and Bob Ross. He has accredited much of his local and Caribbean influences to include artists such as Boscoe Holder, Carlisle Chang, Michel Jean Cazabon, Jackie Hinkson, Wifredo Lam, Edna Manley and Dermot Louison.

Ronald's style is described as being very impressionistic, focusing on establishing light as a natural yet reactive, entity. His favourite subject matter seems to be landscape painting and figurative works, as well as the abstract. The influence of music is a very significant contributor to his rationalization of the world around him and has formed a major part of his visual productions.

Ronald hopes to see the Visual Arts take a frontline roll in the development of Trinidad and Tobago as a prominent civilisation in human history.
