ARTIST STATEMENT
I will not say, that I am a totally self-taught artist, as I have attended and practised at an art institute. I am 'living' art, meaning searching to find myself spiritually, mentally and physically and 'manifesting' signs on my journey, which I have only begun as a disciple of fine art developing a chosen standard of a more righteous way of daily life. Continually practising and improving my talent bestowed on me by the Almighty Father.
People will come and see colours, forms and pretty patterns, from my technique which seem to blend creative thoughts and intuitions into transcendental creations, but there is a lot of deep meaning to what is on the canvas.
From my personal experiences and responses of the public 'on-lookers' of my nation Trinidad and Tobago, it was my understanding that 'Fine Art' was not seen to be as important as other academic subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Accounts etc. of the school curriculum. It was viewed as an extra curricular activity or a hobby. This lack of serious exploration and depth then categorized this artist as just another talented person, with the ability to draw, paint, carve etc. When and indeed artists are the eyes, ears, nose and voice of their community, thus transporting messages of reality to a confused society.
But to unlock this precious resource, we need to change people's attitude towards art, beginning at their schools.
My work transcends the viewer from the SURFACE on a journey into my personal interpretation of our environment. After extensive deliberation, my understanding at present is that there is no happiness for man, but to pay reverence to the Lord, eat, drink and to be contented with his work.
I hope that you, the viewer, can relate to and appreciate the depth of my work.
