Gloria HowellContact: praxedes60@yahoo.com
Over the years, she has exhibited and sold paintings in Acrylic, Watercolour and Oils. At present she works predominantly in Oils. Her preferred areas of study are landscapes, seascapes, and human figures. Her style of work could best be described as “Expressionistic.” It reflects an appreciation of beauty, a zeal for activity and flare for colour. The topics of her paintings show an all-round appreciation for the varying aspects of the landscape of Trinidad: the historical and the modern, the peaceful and the active, the broken and the classy. In her work, cultural activities are combined with familiar background scenes to form interesting compositions. She received an award for the design which she contributed for the intended renovation of the San Fernando Waterfront, in her country Trinidad. Praxedes has also constructed miniature models of houses and office buildings, in clay. Included in these are the Lion House in Chaguanas where the famous author, V.S Naipaul, resided for some time, and the Mandir at Ethel Street Mucurapo. She has also created models for many home owners in West Moorings. ARTIST STATEMENT It is my desire to share the overwhelming passion I feel for the various aspects of beautiful landscape, architecture and culture which I have experienced on my jaunts. My experience of these elements have been the motivating force in producing my works of art, and in choosing their titles. It is my wish that my work will stir within you an appreciation of the beauty in the broken; the unique in the mundane; and the beautiful in every aspects of life and nature around you. This is our heritage to share!
