Fergus Griffin

Bro. Griffin, a member of the teaching order of Presentation Brothers in Trinidad since 1947, was born in Ireland in 1916. There he spent three years at the Cork City Municipal Art School. He holds the B.A.. degree and Teachers' Diploma.

One of the most prominent painters in Trinidad and Tobago he has shown locally, in the West Indies, in Britain and in the United States. He is represented in several collections here and abroad.

An excellent Art Teacher, he was a founding father of the Southern Art Society in San Fernando. His humanity is exemplified by his interest in depicting rural village folks occupying themselves with the business of living. This portrayal is rendered in a semi-naturalistic, richly coloured, expressionistic manner.

Bro. Griffin returned to Ireland where he died.
