Born 1977
Leona Fabien started painting and drawing on entering secondary school in 1989. At the age of 16, Fabien was encouraged to continue studying art as a subject for the Cambridge A- Level Examination where she was eventually awarded for placing first among the other art students in the school.
At age 21, Leona Fabien applied to the Centre for the Creative and Festival Arts where she pursued her degree in Visual Arts. At university she was exposed to sculpture, weaving, product design, drawing and painting. At The Centre for the Creative and Festival Arts, Fabien was the recipient of numerous awards. Fabien was awarded two Bursary Awards from the UWI Endowment and Development Fund for excelling in Art at the universily for the academic year 1999/2000 and 2000/2001. She was then awarded the Eastman-Christensen Visual Arts Award for excelling in art in her second year at the university.
Fabien has been exhibiting annually with The Women In Art Organisation since she joined in 2000. In addition, she has exhibited with other artists at The National Museum and Art Gallery, The Central Bank, Kapok Hotel, Southern Art Gallery and Trinidad Art Society.
This young artist has always painted because she simply likes to paint and create unusual pieces of art. Art allows her to relax and be at peace with herself. The simple things in nature always interested Fabien, who believes that there is so much to be learned from nature. The balance of colour, line, texture, shape can all be observed from nature.
Fablen's main interest at the moment is to have fun experimenting with mixed materials and media.
