Anna Maria Dickinson

Anna-Maria Dickinson

With every piece of artwork you see of Anna-Maria Dickinson’s collection, you glimpse the journey of her life filtered and infused with memory and nostalgia. A journey that began under the golden sun of the Caribbean, detouring through the state of Virginia and then settling in the breathtaking land of Canada. All her works are rich with enthusiasm and honesty, carefully generated from an eye for detail and an explosive use of the colour palette. On each canvas, there demonstrates the efforts of a brilliant mind and a gifted hand.

Many of Anna-Maria’s pieces have been showcased in galleries, museums and cultural venues in and around Toronto, Canada and in Virginia, US.  Her pieces can be found in private collections throughout Canada, the United States and the Caribbean.

Artist Statement
I have not painted my whole life. I gave it up when my two children were quite young. They were my life and everything I did at that time was geared toward nurturing these two small beings that were placed in my care. Twenty-five years later - I was determined to be an artist – to encourage and cultivate the artist within, so that I could paint a stroke and feel confident about it. I had the ability but it was just the matter of trusting that ability.   I paint in oil – it is “Anna-Maria friendly”, and it forgives me.

My fellow artists say that I have a split personality, one foot in the hot, steamy Caribbean (my Caribbean pieces) and one in the cool North (my Canadian pieces).  Now I think about it - I do have a split personality.

Through my Caribbean art I want you to absorb my love for the vibrancy, the movement and colour of the islands, for the slow times when there is never any hurry to get anywhere and a feeling that there is always another day to get things done.  My Canadian art depicts the beauty in the different seasons, the feeling of peace and quiet which is so much a part of where I am at this time in my life.  Lanes, paths and streams feature strongly in my paintings, they take you in to the worlds I want you to see, up to farmhouses tucked away in fields of corn, sheltered from the world.

I am passionate about each and every piece I paint and I hope you enjoy my view of the world.
