Reita's paintings have taken on a modernist approach since she seeks to present a personal and intellectual interpretation of her subject matter. Her images are a sumptuous treat for the mind as well as the eye. She has achieved these results through manipulation of the patterned rhythmic forms of the roots of the Ficus Benjamina tree and the female human figure. Her expressive and metaphorical use of colour and form gives her work the rhythmic, tonal dimension that allows it to exist beyond the visual. Her body of work, Systems of Existence, seeks to visually remind people of the importance of their roots. The figure of a mother, who is strong willed and has her roots firmly planted in the ground forms part of the iconography that is used. The aerial roots of this very beautiful tree are gracefully and effectively used to convey strength, power and unity, but only because of the stability and force [of the figure] of a woman involved. Her systems of belief and values are strong and unwavering and she is responsible for how things develop and evolve, not only within the confines of the home, but in the community at large. The teachings and substances of quality that she projects and transmits invariably become important aspects of one's culture. The artist believes that because we live in a post-modern era, the information age, where plural cultures compete and collide and commingle, there is simply no dominant cultural style or ethos. Our formative experiences therefore, even whilst still in the womb, dictate how we seek to develop and follow Systems of Existence in this world.
