Dear Artist
Re: Submission of Paintings for III Phase- Oval Wall Project
We acknowledge receipt of your emails and thank you for your interest shown in the People’s Canvas, Oval Wall Project and wish to inform you that the Label House Group Limited will be launching the 3rd Phase of the People’s Canvas, Oval Wall Project.
The 3rd Phase is intended to coincide with the up coming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Trinidad and Tobago at the end of November 2009. The theme for CHOGM is “Partnering for a more Sustainable Future”. With that in mind, our theme for Phase 3 is “Sustainability and the Elimination of Poverty”. This theme is as broad as it is wide and can include the following sub-themes.
- Human Rights
- The Financial Crisis and Economic Development
- Environmental and Climate Change
- Gender Rights
- Health and HIV/AIDS
- Peace and Conflict
- Deepening Democracy and Governance
- Creativity and Innovation
We consider that the compatibility between the Phase3 theme and the theme for CHOGM will create a unique opportunity for international and domestic press coverage and comment. There may be the possibility of the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago being itself featured in the publication by Publications UK of “The Commonwealth - A Celebration of 60 years” which is a commemorative book which will be launched to celebrate this auspicious birthday of the Commonwealth with a possible viewership of millions.
Please note that you are invited to submit two (2) pieces. If your work is chosen you are then required to sign a Limited rights agreement for the provision of your artwork for the period indicated as well as for the production of 20 limited edition prints as set out below as well as for a brochure.
This is not to be regarded as an indication that your submission will necessarily be selected. The work will be juried by artists from the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago. Any artist on such a jury whose work is being adjudicated on, will be excused from assessment of his own work.
The Art Society intends to mount an exhibition of the original work selected for the project at its premises at Jamaica Boulevard and St Vincent Avenue, Federation Park, Port of Spain, Trinidad timed to coincide with the launch of Phase 3 and CHOGM. The sponsors of Phase 3 are desirous of producing a limited edition print of twenty (20) of each of the winning submissions and a brochure. Whether they can be funded will depend on the level of further corporate support that the Label House Group can procure. In any event, the level of exposure to the artists that is expected will be greater than has been possible in the past. The level of payment for rights to the use of images is not clear at this stage but artists are asked to consider the promotional prospects in responding to this invitation.
Enclosed herewith is a Guideline Form of the specific sizes required.
We look forward to receiving your work and wish you the best of luck.
Yours faithfully
Courtenay Williams
